Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is the 2nd largest pedagogy hospital of Harvard Medical Schoolhouse and the largest infirmary in the Longwood Medical Area in Boston, Massachusetts. Along with Massachusetts General Hospital, it is one of the two founding members of Mass General Brigham, the largest healthcare provider in Massachusetts. Sunil Eappen serves as the hospital's current president.[1]

Brigham and Women's Infirmary was established with the 1980 merger of three Harvard-affiliated hospitals: Peter Aptitude Brigham Infirmary (established in 1913); Robert Breck Brigham Hospital (established in 1914); and Boston Hospital for Women (established in 1966 as a merger of Boston Lying-In Hospital, established in 1832, and Complimentary Hospital for Women, established in 1875).[ citation needed ]

In the early 1990s, BWH pioneered Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) to prevent medication errors. BWH has received patient safety awards for its electronic Medication Assistants Record (eMAR) and barcoding organisation, which places barcodes on patients' medications, name bands, and nurses' badges. A nurse scans all 3 barcodes before administering a medication to ensure that each patient receives the correct medication and dosage at the correct fourth dimension.[10] [xi]
